There are comics I like, and comics I tolerate, and comics I skip past. I like Get Fuzzy and Dilbert, and I tolerate a whole lot (including Beatle Bailey, Blondie, and friggin Snuffy Smith! Now that’s damn tolerant, indeed.) But one of the comics I regularly avoid is Garfield. There’s something about his character – I think he’s a dog in cat-drag or something. Either way, I can’t stand Garfield.

Until now, that is. In a move that has all the hallmarks of inspired genius, someone has discovered that all that the Garfield comic needed was to give Garfield himself the heave-ho.

Who would have guessed that when you remove Garfield from the Garfield comic strips, the result is an even better comic about schizophrenia, bipolor disorder, and the empty desperation of modern life? Friends, meet Jon Arbuckle. Let’s laugh and learn with him on a journey deep into the tortured mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against lonliness and methamphetamine addiction in a quiet American suburb.
