It's hard to think when you're not used to it.
The question is simple enough:
As you watched the scores of U.S. Presidential debates, did you ever wonder why there has been no debate devoted to policy surrounding what may be the most important social issue of our time: Science and Technology?
Well it turns out that plenty of folks wondered about this, and were motivated to create a Presidential debate that covers science and technology issues in areas such as the environment, health and medicine, and science policy. The Science Debate 2008 effort is described as a “citizen initiative lead by a group of largely non-scientists” although the group now claims to include over “10,000 scientists, engineers, and concerned citizens.” 10,001 now, since I just signed up
We believe a debate on these issues would be the ideal opportunity for America and the candidates to explore our national priorities on the issues, and it is hard to imagine any candidate not wishing to be involved in such an occasion.
Hmm … as Han Solo once said, “I don’t know, I can imagine quite a bit.” Even so, it would be refreshing to hear the candidates try to speak intelligently about a sophisticated issue or two. If you’re interested in hearing what your favored candidates think about Science and Technology issues, voice your support for ScienceDebate2008 at their website.
HT to Lisa for this.
I'm contentedly confident in my abilities and frequent correctness - and this is where you get to bask in my light. Though I'm superior, I'm not complacent. No siree, I spend much of my time trying to understand people, and why some of us are such freaks.
