In addition to a candidate's position on evolution being indicative of her/his support of science education I think it is also indicative of how well they can critically think about issues. I want a president with the ability to make decisions based on empirical evidence rather than making her/his decisions based purely on emotion and/or religious dogma. Any candidate who does not recognize that theory is as good as it gets in science and who is not able to read the scientific literature and conclude that evolution has an abundance of empirical support is an idiot. We've tried (and are still trying) the presidential idiot model in the past and it's time for a change.
