It's hard to think when you're not used to it.
The associated press reported this morning that a mother in Columbia S.C. had her 12-year-old son arrested for playing with his Christmas present early.
The mother called police Sunday after learning her son had disobeyed orders and repeatedly taken a Game Boy from its hiding place at his great-grandmother’s house next door and played it. He was arrested on petty larceny charges, taken to the police station in handcuffs and held until his mother picked him up after church.
Apparently, this mother wanted to scare her kid straight and, “only wants positive things out of it [her son’s arrest]”.
Only positive things - sure. Mom was tired of her 12-year-old getting his way, and rather than being a solid parent, she had her boy sent to the pokey. If she were a good mother she would have simply taken the toy away or imposed some other reasonable punishment for her son’s behavior. But no - now the kid is in the system, and mom - having sent him in on such weird grounds - demonstrated that she’s not really capable of looking out for his best interests.
You know how I knew she was a crappy mom? She got her kid a GameBoy rather than a DS. The kid’s gonna be scarred for life.
I'm contentedly confident in my abilities and frequent correctness - and this is where you get to bask in my light. Though I'm superior, I'm not complacent. No siree, I spend much of my time trying to understand people, and why some of us are such freaks.
